The Naked Truth

about the Naked Wedding Cake

Responding to requests for more seasonal and visually appetizing cakes, bakeries across the country have taken to producing custom creations that they've christened 'naked' cakes. Like traditional wedding showpieces, these confections sandwich creamy buttercream frosting between tiers of tender layer cake. But the similarities end there. Because of their exposed-crumb finish, these cakes prove that it's what's on the outside that counts.

The traditional wedding cake is typically frosted with white icing, but if a new trend takes hold, it's about to get a serious make-under.
More and more brides are opting to serve 'naked cakes' - pared-down creations that forgo an outer layer of buttercream so that the texture of the cake and the colors inside are put on show.

Some of the flavors include a dulce de leche cake with milk crumbs, a mixed flavor cake with chocolate malt, pistachio, salted pretzel and strawberry lemon, and a rainbow 'birthday cake' with vanilla frosting inside.

So it's a make under rather than a makeover! They certainly look just as delicious!
