Getting to Know Your Wedding Photographer

A Chat with Will O'Reilly

When the "I do's" are said, the meal is over, the toasts are a fading memory and the dancing done you will be looking forward to seeing all of these moments in time captured through the lens of your wedding photographer.

Meet Will, he is one of our preferred wedding photographers here at Powerscourt House. I recently met up with Will for a chat and got to know more about this creative wedding photographer!

How would you describe your photographic style?

My style has developed over the last ten years moving towards natural and relaxed images using available light where possible. I shoot candid photos throughout the day, capturing fun moments of you and your guests. The more formal photos are creative and modern. You want to enjoy your day and spend most of your time with each other and mixing with your guests, which is exactly how it should be.

Natural, Luminous and Beautiful

I try and capture you as yourselves without too much direction from me and with the minimal amount of fuss and time away from your party. I use natural light a lot but I can also use flash very subtly to create really nice light. I try to capture the beauty of your day and all that you've put into it.

How long have you been working as a photographer?

I have been a photographer now for about 10 years and I am doing wedding photography for the last 8 years.

What’s the standard coverage on the day?

I usually shoot from when you're getting ready until the start of the meal and from an hour and a half before the ceremony until you are announced into the room for dinner.

Can you stay later?

Absolutely, but there is an extra charge.

What’s the story with copyright?

I retain copyright of the photos but you have freedom to print and share the photos as you like. You just can't sell them or pass them off as your own work.

How long does it take to receive the album?

Usually the longest delay here is in choosing your favourite photos. Sometimes that can take a while, of course because you love all them all. Once you have chosen your photos, I will send you a draft layout within 2 weeks. Then it’s a case of making changes and redrafting the album until you're happy. This usually takes 2-3 design iterations. Once you've signed off, the album will arrive in 3-4 weeks. And you'll be really happy.

Tell us a little bit about you

I love coffee, rugby, traveling, the Wicklow mountains, the sea, my two small men, my beautiful wife, reading, photographing, chocolate – not necessarily in that order.

Will has shot many weddings at Powerscourt House & Gardens. Here are just a few of his favourites!

Powerscourt Spring Wedding

Will & Becky April 2013

After leaving the dull days of Winter behind our wedding season started off in April with the wedding of Will & Becky. A beautiful day awaited them at Powerscourt House and they chose to have a very unique English themed wedding.

Will is a local from just down the road in Delgany and Becky came from across the Irish sea to find a handsome Irish man to betroth. They live in Eygpt but decided to return home to exchange their wedding vows.

Their guests were transported via a vintage English bus and the menus were tailor made with some very traditional English dishes.

With a little help from her new husband Becky makes her way back to the main house to meet her guests. This photo is taken at the Triton Lake and looks back towards the south facade of Powerscourt House.

"Thank you so so so much for everything that you did for our special day. From the moment we contacted you the service has been flawless. You knew exactly what we had envisaged and captured it beautifully. You made everything personal from creating our bespoke English themed menu to congratulating us on the day when we arrived at the House. The detailing and thought that had been put into our menu was perfect and since then we have been inundated with compliments on how fabulous and unique the food was. The service on the day was excellent and our guest wanted for nothing. When we walked into the Ballroom at Powerscourt it was even better than we had imagined. It looked absolutely stunning, everything and more that we could have dreamed of.

Thank you so much again for all of your hard work and commitment on the day, we could have not asked for more. We will definitely being using you again for any other occasion and will be sure to recommend your expert services to anyone that asks."
