We are fresh into the new wedding season of 2016! The last few years have seen brides drawing inspiration direct from Pinterest or the Royal wedding, couples are now hoping to put their own personal stamp on it and for their guests to have fun!

SHINE ON

According to Harriette Rose Katz, an event planning guru from New York, metallic is big in for the 2016 wedding season. Rose gold is hot and will be seen from the wedding ring itself to table linens, florals and much more. Silver, apparently, is on the way out!

THAT HOMELY FEEL

Couples are now incorporating those special memories and trinkets from home. Even if the wedding is not local to where they grew up. For example using vintage street lamps, props from an Irish Bar and so on.

ROMANCE IS STILL ALIVE

Yes believe it or not romance is still at the forefront of wedding decor and design. LESS FORMAL FLORALS

Arrangements that feature both whatever is in season and whatever is local are gaining traction. Sometimes couples request a “wild” look, say Casey Schwartz and Kit Wertz of Flower Duet in Los Angeles. “What they’re after are freshly picked blooms.” These free-form bouquets and center pieces often include a mix of big and small blossoms in more than one color, and might use spiky flowers or fruiting vines to serve as exclamation points.

And so a new year begins! Happy New Year to all our couples past, present and future from everyone at Powerscourt Estate and Feast Catering.

2014 was a phenomenal year for Weddings at Powerscourt! We had a great start to the year with an early spring wedding and then went on to have some terrific summer, autumn and winter weddings too..... So a new year and to get planning for the year ahead I have put together the top 5 wedding trends for 2015. I hope you will be inspired!

GLAM IS BACK

Yes the glitz and glam style in wedding dresses is back in 2015. Off the shoulder, long sleeves and lace are making a come back this year. Soft flowing fabrics make for that glamorous look and intimate lace adds an element of romance.

TEXTURED WEDDING CAKES

The naked wedding cake trend has by no means gone away for 2015 but we are now seeing an emerging trend for textured cakes such a ruffles and textured designs.

The Bungalow opened it's doors just one year ago and we think they are pretty special.

The Bungalow is managed by the sibling duo Therese & Shelley, who both bring a quirky and creative flair to flowers! They cater for weddings and special occasions and they work very closely with their clients to ensure that they deliver on each and every requirement. They offer a fast and friendly service and the flowers are bought direct from the markets. They do not use refrigerators in their store as they want their flowers to last longer!

Therese is the business guru and entrepreneur! Having work as part of the pre-opening team at the Ritz Carlton Therese gained great business knowledge which encouraged her to open her own spa business in Killiney. From there she went on to open another salon in Kilcoole when the opportunity was presented to her for The Bungalow at The Delgany in Delgany Village.

Shelley has a background in art and is deeply passionate about design. Her creative flair brings a unique style to the floral creations at The Bungalow. She has also worked in landscape design and has a love for horses. She is a self thought florist and her designs and ideas are breathtaking.

You will find this creative duo at the rear of The Delgany, in Delgany Village and you also have an opportunity to indulge in the delectable bakery delights and sit back and enjoy a freshly brewed coffee.

Spring Flowers

The promise of Spring brings new life all around us. Spring flowers are truly beautiful and refreshing after the stark colours of Winter. There are so many fabulous blooms and I have handpicked but a few!

I personally love the blousy blooms of the Peony and think that these flowers on their own just take your breath away. The peony also symbolizes bashfulness. In Victorian times it was believed that mischievous nymphs hid in its magnificent petals. Symbolizing beauty and romance, the peony is often chosen for weddings. The same generous petals that earn them the symbolic meaning of happy marriage also earn them the symbolic meaning of compassion.

Anemones are another favourite Spring flower and now come in a number of varieties. According to Greek mythology, the anemone sprang from Aphrodite’s tears as she mourned the death of Adonis.  Thought to bring luck and protect against evil, legend has it that when the anemone closes its petals, it’s a signal that rain is approaching.  

Still other mythology connects the anemone to magical fairies, who were believed to sleep under the petals after they closed at sunset.

Perhaps it’s because of this magical and prophetic tales that today in the language of flowers, anemones represent anticipation.

Feverfew is a small daisy like flower that is used along with other Spring flowers in wedding bouquets or they look lovely as table centrepieces. They look fantastic for a rustic or woodland wedding theme.

Muscari adds a vibrant splash of colour! Muscari has purple, spike-like bunch of urn shaped flowers. The blossoms bloom just like bunches of grapes perched upside down. The extraordinary shapes make this one of the prettiest purple flowers to use at wedding. Meaning Mutual Love!

Spring isn't quite Spring without Tulips. Tulips are symbolic of fame and perfect love. The symbolic meanings also change with the color of the tulips. Red tulips mean "believe me" and are a declaration of true love. Variegated tulips mean "you have beautiful eyes." Yellow tulips mean "there's sunshine in your smile" and cheerful thoughts. Cream colored tulips mean "I will love you forever." White tulips symbolize heaven, newness and purity. Purple tulips symbolize royalty. Pink tulips mean affection and caring. Orange tulips mean energy, enthusiasm, desire, and passion.
