Cupids Arrow Strikes at Powerscourt

Michael & Ruby
4th September 2016

How did you guys meet?

We actually met online through OK Cupid! I was incredibly nervous the first time we met in person as I thought Ruby was way out of my league. We met outside the gates of Trinity College in town and went to Stephen's Green park on our first date. I knew instantly that Ruby was someone very special, and I'm incredibly lucky to have met her!

Tell us about your engagement?

This one is a little weird for us as we actually got married in Taiwan in September 2015, but it was only a small affair for close family. We wanted to have a proper wedding in Ireland on the same date (September the 4th) the following year so that all our friends in Ireland could celebrate with us. We were thrilled to find out that Powerscourt House was free on the same date in 2016, it also means we only have one anniversary date to remember :)

We chose our venue because?

We're massive fans of Powerscourt. I took Ruby here on our second date as I wanted to show her the very best of Ireland. She had had some pretty bad experiences when she first arrived in the country and I wanted to show her that Ireland had a lot more to offer. She fell in love with Powerscourt immediately, and we've been coming here ever since! There was never really any question about where we wanted our wedding in Ireland to be!

Favourite part of your day?

Our favourite part of the day was directly after the ceremony itself. We were finally able to relax a little bit and enjoy the day in the amazing surroundings. The weather was amazing so we had the reception outside in the gardens, everyone loved the place!

Any advice for other couples?

Try to relax and take some time during the day to take it all in. The wedding day passed so quickly that we both feel like we missed so much. You're so busy with photo shoots and meeting & greeting the guests that there's very little time for just the two of you.

Thank You!

We have to say a massive thanks to Conrad from Feast Catering for all of his hard work. The day went flawlessly, and that's all down to Conrad and his team! He was completely unflappable on the day and we were (and still are) completely in awe of him!

Summer Wedding Bliss at Powerscourt

From a rainy day proposal to an uplifting wedding experience at Powerscourt!

Where did you meet?
Brian and I met in work 6 years ago-you could say it was love at first sight!

Tell is about the proposal!
Brian proposed on St.Stephen’s day in Powerscourt-we had a lovely lunch in the Sugarloaf lounge looking out to what was a horrible dreary wet day! After lunch, Brian insisted we go for a walk…I knew something was up because no one would want to go for a walk on a day like that! We borrowed some umbrellas from reception and walked over to the golf course which is overlooked by Powerscourt House. Brian got down on one knee and proposed in the rain in a deserted wet golf course!

Why Powerscourt?
When choosing a venue it was an obvious choice to go back to Powerscourt…I had seen the ballroom of Powerscourt House on the internet but never in the flesh. We were shown around the venue by Conrad and immediately fell in love; it was the first and only venue we viewed. With 2 large reception rooms to choose from and the ballroom, there are some many options. The décor is so beautiful; the architecture and interiors really speak for themselves so there is no real requirement to add anything! From start to finish, Conrad at Feast Catering and the hotel staff, in particular Siobhan and Carmel, were extremely helpful and accommodating for all of our questions and requests. We had a tasting with Conrad a few months prior to the wedding and it was truly divine, we knew we were in good hands.

The Best Bits!
Brian and I, and both of our families, stayed in the hotel the night prior to the wedding-my room was enormous and was an ideal setting for getting ready in the morning of! We had our ceremony in a local church and upon arrival at the house, due to the nice weather on the day, had our drinks reception in the gardens. Everything had been organized so seamlessly that there was nothing to worry about. We had our photos taken in the remarkable grounds; the pictures are incredible! My favourite part of the day was the dinner and the speeches. All of our guests remarked on the day about at the quality of the food and the beautiful venue and are still commenting about it! My advice for couples getting married is to try to not stress too much about it, plan as far in advance as possible and put your trust in the expertise of the staff!

We can’t recommend Powerscourt House as a wedding venue more, I feel honored that we were able to host our reception there!

A Romantic Affair

Summertime Weddings at Powerscourt House

The perfect wedding begins with the perfect location. Andy and Katya decided that the historic Powerscourt House and Gardens was just right for them!

It’s pretty hard to find something not to love about Powerscourt, from the grand Palladian Mansion to the expanse of finely manicured gardens, a perfect setting for a summer wedding. Andy and Katya celebrated their wedding in July, we are so delighted they had such a wonderful day!

''We could not have asked for more, and everything was absolutely perfect! The house itself is just stunning, very light and spacious, beautifully renovated and has an absolutely incredible atmosphere. The view of the mountain and the gardens from the house is breath-taking and we were so excited for our guests (especially for those travelling from U.S.A., Russia, and United Kingdom) to enjoy it on the day. When the planning began for the big day, we knew we were in good hands, when Conrad offered us his support in everything we needed. He was always there for us to answer all the questions (and we had MANY questions), promptly responding to our emails and having numerous phone calls with us. The day before and on the day of the wedding itself, Conrad made sure everything is as perfect as it could possibly be. We are forever grateful for all the hard work that he has done. The team that worked with Conrad deserves a special shout out as well, all of them were very professional, friendly and attentive to us and our guests.

We have to separately mention the food and wines offered for the wedding, we LOVED every single dish we tasted during the food tasting, so deciding what we want on the wedding menu wasn't easy at all, however we finally agreed to go for salmon as a starter, guinea fowl and halibut as a main course, and poached pear as a dessert, we had no regrets. The food was prepared to perfection, served on time, and we received many many compliments from our guests who enjoyed their dinner very much.

As for many couple, our wedding was a very special and memorable day to us. But we are delighted that all our 110 guests enjoyed the day as much as we did. From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank every single member of Powerscourt House team who made our wedding the best of our lives!''.

June Wedding at Powerscourt

Summertime at Powerscourt House & Gardens

Nestled in the mountains of County Wicklow and surrounded by the natural beauty of the magnificent gardens Powerscourt House is undeniably breathtaking!

Kelly often visited Powerscourt as a child and so she decided on Powerscourt House for her special day.  On a summers day in June this year Kelly and Olly celebrated with family and friends, here's what they had to say;

''I have many happy memories of visiting Powerscourt Estate as a child and it was a dream come true to get married there. The setting is incredible, the Ballroom is stunning, the staff are incredibly attentive and the food fantastic. We have had so many positive comments from our guests and we feel extremely privileged that we were able to host our wedding in this incredibly beautiful estate. There really is no other setting like it. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts''.

Inspiring Outdoor Weddings

The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same, yet our lessons come from the journey and not the destination!

Let's face it, here in Ireland, we can't exactly depend on the weather to have our wedding reception under blue skies and beaming sunshine. Still and all I cannot but love some of the outdoor wedding inspiration from Pinterest :) There are so many wonderful outdoor wedding ideas from lawn games, to blooming bouquets and even the odd garden party!

Outdoor weddings in Ireland can be challenge but you could plan your drinks reception in the garden and move inside for the more formal setting of a buffet or seated meal. Powerscourt House and Gardens is an ideal venue in county Wicklow and is a perfect setting for such an idea! Enjoy drinks along the terrace of the Italian Garden and take in the vista of the romantic roaming hills of Wicklow. Later you and your guests can move indoors to the Georgian ballroom in the Palladian Mansion to the more formal setting of the ballroom.

The only thing holding you back is your imagination......

The Perfect Pair - Seafoam and Peach

Seafoam and Peach Colour Palette

It can be rather a difficult task to mix, match and pair up colours for your wedding. If I choose red what will go with it? It truly is a minefield and can be a hard one to get your head around? Had you ever heard of a colour called seafoam, me either until I went looking for colours to match up with peach. Seafoam and Peach have a water colour (pardon the pun) feel that adds to its spectacular interest and charm.

Seafoam radiates peace and tranquility with an uplifting energy! The perfect partner for this amazing colour is peach.

Perhaps consider some accessories and jewellery in a darker turquoise to add some contrast!

Here are some amazing weddings using the colour theme of seafoam and peach - I think you'll agree they are just divine!
